CART (Coins for Alzheimer's Research Trust) began in The Rotary Club of Sumter, SC in 1995 to fund cutting-edge Alzheimer's research.  The idea was to place spare change in blue buckets at each Rotary meeting, and 100% of that money would be awarded in research grants to find a way to prevent, slow down, or cure Alzheimer's.

The first research grant for $100,000 was awarded in 1999 to Dr. Alan Levy of Emory University.  As of May 2021, CART has awarded 61 grants totaling more than $10.2 million dollars for cutting-edge Alzheimer's research.  CART receives contributions from forty-two Rotary Districts.

HOW TO SEND CONTRIBUTIONS TO CART

In 2020 CART launched the CART Online Contribution Portal for sending contributions to CART.  All CART contributions are to be sent through this portal by electronic transfer or credit card.  Individuals may contribute through the portal, also.  Contributions are no longer to be sent to the District Treasurer.

The portal is found at https://mycartfund.org. Rotarians whose clubs use Dacdb may sign in with their Dacdb user name and password.  Others may contribute by following prompts on the portal.  This has not replaced the use of the blue buckets at Rotary meetings.

District 6920 has been a major contributor to CART since its early days. From May 1, 2020 through March 30, 2021, District clubs contributed $43,097.80.  This was given by 31 of our 61 Rotary Clubs. The amount is fantastic considering that we were in the midst of a pandemic. All clubs are encouraged to participate in this important endeavor.  Thank you for your support!
